The
Ages of Life

All seems as a moment,
Like a leaf blown strong by wind...

Before
and After

"When I was a boy, the Dead Sea was only sick."
George Burns.
"I don't feel old. I don't feel anything until
noon.
Then
it's time for my nap."
Bob Hope

The
Storm

Advanced in years, long practiced, skilled, warn out.
I am, old at last.
I see more, hear more, feel more than life before.
Know one day with the greatest pleasure,
The next with abject terror,
No one, not one remembered thought can I hold close,
My body breathes like crumbling toast.
The storm of parting is upon me now,
The waves come close, I know not how.

Touch

Your touch is like the silk of petals,
Tissue paper skin,
Thin,
Twin of dragonfly,
Sweet soft rememberings.

Transform

Like water over rock we make but little change.
But change we do.
My face transformed,
My spirit strong,
My heart still filled with awe,
My voice still true with song,
My thoughts like clear spring water flow,
My hope intact, what future brings? I do not know.

Thin
Air

What is the worse of woes that wait on age?
What stamps the wrinkle deeper on the brow?
To view each loved one, blotted from life's page,
And be alone on earth, as I am now.
Lord Byron

The
Deep

Dive deep today dip toe in unknown waters brave.
No guide, nor rules assist,
Nor can a single hair be held,
Nor money or achievement meld some hard immortal coin.
This then is new from old,
A great adventurer go bold,
Unto we know not what from this small single spot,
Breathe last the ills of life,
Close eyes once more,
As finally and certainly we pass through open door.
