Review

I've been using Fireworks since it first arrived on
the scene way back when. Fireworks MX is the current
incarnation that is testament to the policy Macromedia
adopts in developing software in close partnership
with its users.
Fireworks integrates effortlessly with the other members
of the MX family. The user interface is straightforward,
although there may be occasions the first time user
is somewhat daunted by the vast array of functions
available within this professional image editor. That
said, Fireworks MX makes a great job of enabling the
creation and optimisation of images for the web, and
can easily be called upon from within Dreamweaver,
its sister web development application.
If you're considering Fireworks as your image making
solution, you might also like to review Studio
MX that provides all of Macromedia's web development
tools in a single cost-saving package.
In addition to the significant image editing features
you'll find in Fireworks MX, you'll also be able to
take advantage of the large and vibrant Macromedia
developers community which offers free 'Extensions'
that provide additional functionality to the software.
An improvement I'd like to see in a future version
is the integration of more vector tools combined with
the ability to convert to vector from a bitmap. This
along with improved brush strokes and a Dremweaver-like
tabbed interface will place Fireworks into a five
star category. For now though, Fireworks presents
the simplest, best means of generating images for
the web.
