The Beauty of Natural
Things
We build great buildings with our hands,
write poetry with skills of the mind,
and
make music in a place still very much a mystery
to us. These
uniquely human
activities
require our conscious effort and exacting attention,
and in such a place of creativity our minds are
enlivened, our hearts touched, often
in the most unexpected
of ways. It
is tempting to think we are the masters of this
gift of making, yet so often it is the place, the
moment and what our
senses
gather,
that
sparks
our journey into the unknown realm.
Wave
Upon Wave
The
forces of nature have crashed against this ancient
coastline for countless years and continues to
break the hard set clay so the sea is left heavy
with gray. Stand and the light will change, the
air will change. To record something of this
you must become a vessel with little of yourself
left. Choose
your medium and capture the faintest of
reflections
of
what it is to be in that place. If an open heart
and good judgment is on your side, some
small nugget will remain of the experience.

The
Choices We Make
As
I walk on this beach in the early morning I see
countless choices before me - many
fail to capture what I wish to convey,
others I do not make might far better connect
this place
than those I alight upon. The low sun, the
crisp edge
of
moist stone, the
life
of plants ripped fresh from their home by waves
since spent. I could point
my lens to the floor of pebbles and washed up
seascape, perhaps that would suffice - but then
again, pure
chance is a
choice that I value less. I want what small thing
I keep to be part of a larger picture.

One
Thing Leads To Another
How
many waves per minute, per hour, per day rush
across this sand. There are countless opportunities
to be
a part
of this
landscape, to become a part of the picture.

The
beauty of natural things surrounds us - it is
up to us to take that short step into this
moment. The time
is now and always
will be. No past or future permits our presence,
our choice is always of this time. Be a part
of it.
